- Career Path
Ms. Faith welcomed the AGYW and encouraged them to always be available for the meeting. She explained the term Career as an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person’s life and with opportunities for progress.
She noted the challenges at choosing life career paths at an early age, and the need to seek guidance and counseling from parents, teachers, mentors, or role models; as most persons would find the whole process complicating.
She stressed the line of passion, effective communication with parents/caregivers, avoiding career paths imposition, avoiding side distractions in form of peer groups, friends, family background determination, tact and persuasion as road paths to ply in the course of making informed decisions on choosing a career.
They were admonished to look out for internships, mentorship while on holidays or any other engagement that would bring them closer to their career dreams. Career choices were discussed individually, while the need to work towards actualizing same through means such as maximizing their academic pursuit and using all available assistance at their disposal were strongly emphasized.
The key recommendations for the AGYW was to lead exemplary social lives, learn to make good career choices through all they were taught, as well as learn lucrative skills that would keep them productively engaged during their leisure time.
The program was educating and highly interactive. Refreshment was served at the end of the program. The meeting came to end at about 2:00 pm with a total number of thirty (30) AGYW in attendance.
SLNI aim and objective for the program is to empower and improve the lives of adolescents’ girls and young women in rural communities by equipping them with the right knowledge in order to safeguard their lives and future.
