POWER FOUNDATION & SILVER LINING FOR THE NEEDY INITIATIVE: WORLD PREMATURITY AND PNEUMONIA DAY

POWER foundation in partnership with Silver Lining for the Needy initiative organized a comprehensive program in commemoration of  World Prematurity Day and World Pneumonia Day on the 16th Nov 2023, aimed at creating awareness about prematurity, pneumonia and encourage vaccination for children within the community.

PROGRAMME

The program commemorating World Prematurity Day and World Pneumonia Day commenced at 10:00 am with an opening prayer led by a nurse. The event was organized by SLNI and POWER foundation, and the coordinator delivered the opening address, providing an introduction to the foundation’s mission and objectives. Dr. Nonso, the facilitator, took the stage after the coordinator’s opening address. He delivered a comprehensive presentation, covering crucial topics related to maternal and child health. Participants were engaged and found the information shared to be valuable, as confirmed during post-program interviews.

The program exceeded expectations, with a total of 80 participants in attendance, surpassing the targeted 50 attendees. The audience comprised 30 pregnant women and 50 nursing mothers, reflecting a diverse and engaged community.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

Distribution of gifts: Following Dr. Nonso’s presentation, gifts were distributed to the participants. The gifts included baby diapers and utensils, catering to the needs of both expectant mothers and nursing mothers.

Vaccination Outreach: A key highlight of the program was the vaccination outreach for children aged 0-2 years. Despite initial hesitations from some mothers, eight children were successfully vaccinated, contributing to the community’s overall health and well-being.

The program concluded promptly at 1:00 pm, with six dedicated volunteers contributing to its smooth execution.

METHODOLOGY

Community Mobilization: The success of the program was bolstered by effective community mobilization. The coordinator collaborated with local resources, including a town crier, to reach a broader audience. This proactive approach resulted in a higher turnout and enhanced community engagement.

Preparation: Thorough preparation was a key factor in the program’s success. The coordinator liaised with the hospital and staff to ensure all necessary resources, including vaccines, baby diapers, utensils, and venue arrangements, were in place. The team arrived early to set up the venue, arrange banners, and ensure a seamless flow of the event.

RESULTS

The program received positive feedback from participants during post-program interviews. Many expressed gratitude for the valuable information received and the opportunity to enhance their knowledge regarding maternal and child health. The higher-than-expected turnout indicated a successful outreach.

CONCLUSION

 

In conclusion, the program was a resounding success. The goals were met, and participants left with increased awareness of their health and the well-being of their children. Pregnant women received diapers and birthing kits, while nursing mothers benefited from child vaccinations and baby utensils. The community expressed gratitude for the impactful initiative, reflecting the positive impact of the program. The success of this event serves as a testament to the effectiveness of community engagement and proactive healthcare initiatives, emphasizing the importance of continued efforts to improve maternal and child health.
