On February 6, 2024, SLNI conducted an outreach program at Gbagalape Primary Health Care Center in commemoration of World Cancer Day. The target audience was pregnant women. The program aimed to provide health talks on cancer and female genital mutilation awareness. This report provides a detailed account of the program, including the activities carried out, the challenges encountered, and recommendations for future programs.
During the outreach program, our team provided health talks on topics, including
cancer and female genital mutilation. We also distributed birthing kits to the
pregnant women at the primary health center in Gbagalape community.
CHALLENGES:
The challenge encountered during the program was concern from the health care
workers at the facility, about the limited number of items in the birthing kits
distributed to the pregnant women.
RECOMMENDATION
We recommend that there be a revision and modification of kit contents. Conduct a
thorough review of the current birthing kits’ contents in collaboration with
healthcare workers, considering their professional expertise and the specific
needs of pregnant women in the facility. Evaluate the necessity of each item
and explore opportunities for enhancement or supplementation.
CONCLUSION
Our outreach program at Gbagalape Primary Health Care Center was a success. We were
able to provide health talks and distributed birthing kits to pregnant women in
Gbagalape community. We hope that our recommendations will be taken into
consideration to improve the health care system in Nigeria.
