On the 16th May of 2022, the Silver Lining for the Needy Initiative graced the PARTNERSHIP FOR GOALS: ADVANCING THE GENDER AGENDA FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT meeting held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
The meeting organized by SheForumAfrica focused on
- Fostering collaboration and partnership to increase women and girls agency.
- Amplifying the need for the elimination of gender based violence as stated by the Sustainable Development Goal by 2030.
- Creating more awareness on the need for gender equity and equality.
KEY TAKE HOME NOTES
Discussions and submissions were made by different speakers and contributors and these were the major headlines:
#1. Understanding The Need For Gender Equality And Equity.
- Creating awareness that gender inequality is a human right issue as opposed to the conception that it is a woman and girl issue.
- Understanding that gender inequality places much burden and weight on the other gender and weakening the potentials of the female gender.
#2. Elimination of Gender Based Violence
- Gender based violence is an act that needs to be eliminated not reduced.
- To correct the ill impression of GBV, young boys should be trained on want should be a norm and what should not be.
- Gender based violence is a violation of human right issue not female issues.
#3. Girl Child Education
- The girl child education is important for young girls to make critical life decisions.
- To live no one behind, we must make sure we leave no one behind.
- Girls must be given a right and equal opportunities to education as given to men.
#4. Raising Finances For Women Programme
- Raising funds to support women programmes through collaboration and partnerships.
- Leveraging sources such as private sectors through overtime track record of success with proof, integrity and experience.
#4. Ensuring Sustained Growth and Development for Women Gender
- Proper information dissemination and education is a tool to spread information that affects women.
- Sustained advocacy is key to have prolonged and long-lasting effect on the issues affecting women such as GBV, inequality and rape
#5. Equipping Women in Leadership
- Women should be intentional and deliberate with their actions in attaining leadership positions.
- To have more girl agencies, women leaders have to train successors to succeed them when they leave.
- Alone we can do so little and together we can do much.
#6. Policies that support Women
- Policies and laws are essential to address gender inequality and other gender needs.
- Policies should be set and signed into law protect women and girls.
- Family support units and policies should be trained to engage survivors in a non judgmental way.
- As women, when you see something, say something and do something.
#7. Collaboration and Partnerships
- Alone we can do so little and together we can do much.
- Working in partnerships is one way to achieve massive results and bring about solution to gender needs and issues that concern women.

As an organization willing to work to see the gender agenda, SLNI commits to partnering with other NGOs in solidarity, empathy, empowerment, advocacy and every other wise that make women and girls stronger positively and to be strong for women and human rights.
