On September 12, 2024, Silver Lining for the Needy Initiative (SLNI), in partnership with the T.Y. Danjuma Foundation and Rotary Club, held the final event of its Jigawa Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) Project at Gawuna Primary Healthcare Center in Hadejia, Jigawa State. This marks the 12th and last program in what has been a highly successful six-month journey of supporting maternal and child health across the region.
Six Months of Impactful Work
Over the past six months, SLNI has been dedicated to empowering communities through a series of MNCH programs aimed at improving maternal and child health outcomes in Jigawa State. This initiative has reached hundreds of expectant mothers, providing them with essential health education, resources, and medical care. Today’s event brings this phase of the project to a successful conclusion, leaving behind a legacy of healthier families and more informed communities.
Focus on Maternal and Child Health
At the final program, expectant mothers received birthing kits to ensure safe and clean deliveries. For those identified with pregnancy complications, free ultrasound services were offered, allowing for early detection of potential risks and timely medical intervention.
In addition to these practical resources, the program provided mothers with critical health education. Participants engaged in discussions on topics such as:
- Family Planning
- Exclusive Breastfeeding
- Routine Immunization
- Personal and Environmental Hygiene
- Antenatal and Postnatal Care
These sessions emphasized the importance of proactive care, helping expectant mothers take steps toward ensuring the health of their children and themselves.
Celebrating the Success of the MNCH Initiative
Reflecting on the success of the project, this final event was a moment to celebrate the collaborative efforts that have made the Jigawa MNCH Project a significant achievement. Over the course of 12 programs, hundreds of women across Jigawa State have been empowered with the knowledge and tools needed for safe pregnancies, healthier deliveries, and better childcare practices.
SLNI’s representative shared, “This initiative has been about more than just distributing resources—it’s about educating and empowering women to take control of their health and the health of their families. We are proud of what we’ve achieved over the past six months and look forward to continuing our mission to support vulnerable communities.”
A Collaborative Effort for Healthier Communities
This successful six-month initiative would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the T.Y. Danjuma Foundation and Rotary Club. Their collaboration with SLNI has been instrumental in driving positive change in maternal and child health across Jigawa State, helping to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates through education, medical intervention, and community engagement. SLNI extends its heartfelt gratitude to both partners for their invaluable contributions throughout this project.
Looking to the Future
As this chapter of the Jigawa MNCH Project comes to a close, SLNI remains committed to its mission of improving maternal and child health throughout Nigeria. This final program may mark the end of this initiative, but it also sets the stage for future projects that will continue to uplift and empower underserved communities.
With a proven track record of success, SLNI looks forward to expanding its reach and impact in the years to come, building on the achievements of this project to create lasting change in maternal and child health.
