SLNI Partners with Rotary International to Enhance Maternal and Child Health in Akwanga

Akwanga, Nasarawa – August 21, 2024 – Silver Lining for the Needy Initiative (SLNI), in partnership with Rotary International and other key collaborators, successfully conducted a comprehensive community outreach at Andaha Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Akwanga, Nasarawa. This event, titled “Joint Community Outreach,” was designed to improve maternal and child health through education, accessible medical support, and community engagement.

SLNI’s Role in Empowering Families
At SLNI, we believe that empowering families with the right knowledge and resources is key to improving health outcomes. During the outreach, we focused on providing practical, actionable information to help families care for pregnant women, newborns, and young children. Our efforts included:

Health Education: We led informative sessions on family planning, safe childbirth, and child nutrition, equipping families with the knowledge needed to ensure the well-being of mothers and children.
Promoting Healthy Practices: We emphasized the importance of regular health checkups, mosquito net use, and other essential practices, helping families understand how to protect themselves from common health risks.

Supporting Local Healthcare
SLNI, alongside our partners, worked to strengthen the local healthcare system by providing additional staff and resources. This support allowed more community members to receive the care they needed, particularly in areas like prenatal care, vaccination, and disease prevention.

Engaging the Community
One of the highlights of the event was our interactive demonstrations, where we used simple props and health charts to make complex health information more relatable. These sessions were designed to engage the community and make health education accessible and effective.

Impact and Collaboration
Our collaboration with Rotary International, the Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, and other partners was pivotal in the success of this outreach. Together, we distributed critical resources like mosquito nets, anti-malaria drugs, and contraceptive services, directly impacting the health of families in Akwanga.

A Collective Effort for a Healthier Future
This outreach program exemplifies the power of collaboration in addressing maternal and child health challenges. At SLNI, we are proud to have been part of this joint effort, which not only improved individual health outcomes but also strengthened the community’s capacity to maintain and enhance overall well-being. We remain committed to continuing our work in empowering communities and fostering healthier families across Nigeria.
